Stamped Mountain Lions

The final project of the week was to create the ‘Mountain lions’ mentioned in the ‘Nora, Nora, open
the door,’ song. Each student was given a piece of 12″ by 18″, yellow, construction paper, folded
in half. They were instructed to draw a large circle on one half, adding two triangles for the ears
on top. On the other half, students were guided through the drawing of the lion’s body using simple lines.
They then cut out the shapes they had drawn and pieced the lion’s head and body together. Details
were added using leaf stamps dipped in brown paint. The lion’s mane was created by cutting
a fringe out of brown strips of paper.
Phew!!!! We had one busy week in the art room 🙂

Formerly from Britain, I have lived in the USA since 1989. My qualifications are in library science, but I've had a passion for all things artsy and crafty for as long as I can remember! I became the Primary Art Teacher at Shady Oak Christian School in 2009 and am thoroughly enjoying myself. I teach students at both Shady Oak Christian School and Shady Oak Primary School. It's wonderful to be able to share my passion at a place that believes in the importance of learning through creativity. Please check out the Shady Oak websites at http://www.shadyoak.net/ and http://www.shadyoakprimary.com/ to learn more about these unique schools located in Richmond, TX.
