K/1 celebrated Valentine’s Day all week in the art room by completing two heart inspired projects. The first one involved using bleeding tissue paper. This is a great resource for younger students not only for its ease of use, but for its fun factor too!
Students were supplied with a piece of paper, and a variety of different colored tissue paper hearts. They painted their paper with a wash of water and then placed the tissue hearts on the paper. The tissue needed to be completely wet in order for the color to bleed on to the white paper. Once dry, students peeled the tissue paper off the white paper and were left with a sheet of many colored hearts.
The next stage was for students to add a scrapbook paper heart to their background. This was embellished with gems. Finally the word ‘love’ was glued to the background including small shaped hearts cut from newspaper. A lovely mixed media project for Valentine’s day 🙂
