“I am…pictures” 1st and 2nd Grade

It was good to be back in the art room with the Shady Oak children after a long, lazy summer! We eased back into art with a fun activity; an ‘I am…painting. Students had to think of something they enjoyed doing and then draw and paint a picture that reflected their passion or hobby. A photograph was taken of each child in a ‘thinking’ pose and was then glued to the bottom of their picture. Fun start to what I know will be a fabulous year.

About stephwheatley

Formerly from Britain, I have lived in the USA since 1989. My qualifications are in library science, but I've had a passion for all things artsy and crafty for as long as I can remember! I became the Primary Art Teacher at Shady Oak Christian School in 2009 and am thoroughly enjoying myself. I teach students at both Shady Oak Christian School and Shady Oak Primary School. It's wonderful to be able to share my passion at a place that believes in the importance of learning through creativity. Please check out the Shady Oak websites at http://www.shadyoak.net/ and http://www.shadyoakprimary.com/ to learn more about these unique schools located in Richmond, TX.

Oh My Goodness!! These are so cute. What a great idea! I can’t wait to see what else they do this year. ❤

  2. Kimberly Lease says:

These are super cool. I am guessing Layne was out during this time…maybe when she got sick. Anyway, hope she has one too and look forward to seeing her choice. 🙂 neat idea. Thanks for loading up for us to see

    • Hi Kim, Yes, Layne did paint a picture. But a request was made to not have her face appear on social media so I did not post her painting. Her work is on display in the art room. I do not anticipate including the children’s faces in any future projects. Please browse earlier posts by searching for her name to see her previous work. Thanks for your feedback 🙂
