Watercolor Nativity

Merry Christmas everyone. I hope you are enjoying the break relaxing and spending time with your family. I am finally finding time to post the wonderful art work that your child produced during the last few weeks before the Christmas break. You will have seen their art work in the Christmas card you received from your child, a beautiful rendition of Mary and Joseph and baby Jesus.

Each student was given three templates to trace the shapes of Mary, Joseph and Jesus. They were then guided through drawing the details of each figure and drew designs and patterns on the clothing of each character. All pencil lines were then traced with crayon. Color was then added with watercolor paint. Crayon resist is one of my favorite techniques and always produces beautiful results. This was definitely one of my favorite projects 🙂

About stephwheatley

Formerly from Britain, I have lived in the USA since 1989. My qualifications are in library science, but I've had a passion for all things artsy and crafty for as long as I can remember! I became the Primary Art Teacher at Shady Oak Christian School in 2009 and am thoroughly enjoying myself. I teach students at both Shady Oak Christian School and Shady Oak Primary School. It's wonderful to be able to share my passion at a place that believes in the importance of learning through creativity. Please check out the Shady Oak websites at http://www.shadyoak.net/ and http://www.shadyoakprimary.com/ to learn more about these unique schools located in Richmond, TX.

  1. Lovely work! This is one of my favourite techniques, too. There’s a post in my March archive, of flowers I did using this resist method: I used a black paint wash over oil pastels and in this post there’s also an art app painting of flowers. Have a great day. 🙂

    • Thank you so much for your kind words. I am intrigued by the wonderful art work you have done on your Ipad. You have inspired me to try it out. I hope to find time over the Summer break to try it out. I love your blog 🙂
