A Bouquet of Painted Hearts

One of my favorite art blogs is entitled, ‘That Artist Woman.’ Gail Bartel, the author of the blog shares some wonderful art projects and this Valentine inspired project was too good not to try with the 1st graders http://www.thatartistwoman.org/2009/01/valentine-collage.html

Using pink, red, white and purple paint the students created different kinds of painted paper. Different techniques were practiced such as stamping, splattering paint, sponging and combing lines through paint. Once dry different sized hearts were cut out from the paper. They each cut out a vase shape from construction paper and then proceeded to arrange their hearts like a bunch of flowers on black paper. Green stems were added where needed. These would make great cards. A perfect piece of art work to have featured on any ‘Artware By You’ item. Parents, don’t forget this fundraiser.

About stephwheatley

Formerly from Britain, I have lived in the USA since 1989. My qualifications are in library science, but I've had a passion for all things artsy and crafty for as long as I can remember! I became the Primary Art Teacher at Shady Oak Christian School in 2009 and am thoroughly enjoying myself. I teach students at both Shady Oak Christian School and Shady Oak Primary School. It's wonderful to be able to share my passion at a place that believes in the importance of learning through creativity. Please check out the Shady Oak websites at http://www.shadyoak.net/ and http://www.shadyoakprimary.com/ to learn more about these unique schools located in Richmond, TX.
