Surprised Snowman

Students worked on their Artware By You projects this week. One of their pictures was winter themed, a jolly snowman with a surprised look! The composition is a close-up of the snowman’s face just as a gust of wind blows his hat from his head. Students were given a circle shaped template to trace around for the snowman’s head. They added details with crayon and then added swirls with white crayon to give the impression of movement and wind. The hat was the trickiest item to draw as students had to make it appear 3D. Background color was added with water color paint. Students always love seeing their crayon designs appear as they add paint. They were guided through the drawing of the hat. This idea was inspired by pictures found on the Artsonia website http://www.artsonia.com/museum/art.asp?id=7898555&exhibit=259611&gallery=y

The second groups pictures will be posted next week.

About stephwheatley

Formerly from Britain, I have lived in the USA since 1989. My qualifications are in library science, but I've had a passion for all things artsy and crafty for as long as I can remember! I became the Primary Art Teacher at Shady Oak Christian School in 2009 and am thoroughly enjoying myself. I teach students at both Shady Oak Christian School and Shady Oak Primary School. It's wonderful to be able to share my passion at a place that believes in the importance of learning through creativity. Please check out the Shady Oak websites at http://www.shadyoak.net/ and http://www.shadyoakprimary.com/ to learn more about these unique schools located in Richmond, TX.

Parents, buy Christmas cards with this artwork on them! These are wonderful!

  2. Stevie says:

The Kid and I have done the white crayon resists several times…she loves it every time! I used to draw “secret pictures” on poster for her to paint over and find. What a fun project.
